Dr. Liu received his BS in Chemical Engineering from “National Taiwan University” in 1973 and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute, New York University (NYU) in 1979. Later on, from 1979-1983, he worked for Eastman Kodak Co., where he learned advanced coating technology and developed theoretical tools for coating die design. He then spent one year with Colgate-Palmolive Co. till 1984. Dr. Liu returned to Taiwan in 1985 and soon was promoted as a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at “National Tsing Hua University” in 1988. In 1998, Dr. Liu took a short leave from Tsing-Hua and became the founder and president of Formosa Advanced Coating Technologies Co., Inc.. He returned to university in 2002 and currently he is a professor at Tsing Hua University.
Dr. Liu’s profession and dedication toward coating technology earned him the Excellent Teaching Award from the Ministry of Education in 1988, Outstanding Research Awards from National Science Council during 1988-1995 and John A.Tallmadge Award from International Society of Coating Science and Technology (ISCST) in 2008. He has published over 80 technical articles and is the author of the book “Principles and Applications of Polymer Processing” (in Chinese), he also has over 10 patents. Currently Dr. Liu is the vice president of ISCST (Asia), chairman of the Coating Technology Association (CTA) in Taiwan and founder of Asian Coating Workshop (ACW). He also serves as a consultant for several institutes and companies. Two years ago, he established Win Coat Co., Inc., which offers consulting on precision coating technology, lab and pilot coating facilities, microneedle patches for biomedical applications and other coating-related products and services.
